Overview & Responsibilities

POSITION OVERVIEW

Within General Mills, our manufacturing facilities are committed to achieving zero human and food safety incidents and it is every employee’s responsibility to fully support this vision. The technician is expected to participate in all phases of an automation system’s life cycle including design, development, test, installation, startup, and support.  Understands the benefits of and is committed to the development, application and enforcement of plant and corporate standards as they relate to control and automation systems.  Will be empowered to, and must be capable of, confidently making informed, competent, and independent decisions on a routine basis.  Requires little supervision and relies on personal experience to plan and accomplish goals.  Must serve as a plant expert in control and automation technology and must be willing and able to train others in this technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Must be able to properly perform the following required tasks:

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Provide technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and equipment modifications
  • Ensure all work is compliant with NFPA 70 (NEC)
  • Must work flexible hours as part of a group that provides 24/7 support of the plant controls and automation systems.  This responsibility requires that the technician carry a company issued laptop with connectivity to plant to remotely troubleshoot issues outside of the plant to assure the 24/7 support requirement.
  • Must communicate effectively with operations, maintenance and engineering to help address system performance and safety issues on the floor.
  • Must take the initiative to maintain personal expertise as an expert controls and automation resource. Must be eager to provide personal expertise as a tool to other plant personnel in the pursuit of their goals.
  • Drive effective team work and communication
  • Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills
  • Any other duties as required

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ years experience PLC & HMI programming, must be able to write PLC (Controllogix, PLC5, SLC500) & HMI programs & make modifications to existing installations.
  • Troubleshoot servo drives and program AB/Kinetix servos using RSLogix5000
  • VFD Installation, configuration, & commissioning
  • PID loop tuning
  • Calibrate instruments throughout the plant.
  • Ethernet IP infrastructure & networking troubleshooting

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Technical degree in related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Computer Maintenance Management System experience
  • Operating knowledge of AutoCAD & be able to modify electrical drawings
  • Wonderware Experience
